Happy Independence Day!!

We celebrated Independence Day with the Thomander's this year and had a great time! I didn't get any pictures, but we had great food - a good ol' fashioned BBQ with burgers, corn on the cob, potato salad, fruit...and Kathy made the families traditional home made ice cream! It was SO good - it makes me want an ice cream maker. Everything Kathy makes is amazing! The kids had the traditional sugar high...a big cookie and ice cream before playing games and heading out to see the fireworks. Good times! I love the look on Jacob's face in this picture:It rained that evening, so we had to change plans a bit and we stayed in doors until dark and then ventured out to see the fireworks. We had a perfect spot! Colorado Springs made national news because we were the only city to actually cancel the fireworks in order to help cover city budget issues...but thankfully there were plenty of organizations who put on a show! From where we were, we saw 4 different fireworks displays! Kathy brought flags and glow necklaces for the kids - they loved it!
While we waited for the fireworks, we let the kids to some pop fireworks. (Again supplied by Kathy - you made it so fun!!) They thought it was hilarious. Michael had a good time showing Jacob how to do things. Even sparklers were illegal this year... :(
There is something about little boys, their dads and anything that glows that will automatically initiate a light saber fight, hahaha!
After the show we popped off the rest of the fireworks with the kids and Jacob had a great time laughing and marching everywhere singing songs about America. "America you are my beautiful country...Happy Birthday America! ... America the place of the brave and strong..."
The sugar high wore off just as we were getting in the car - perfect timing!! We had a great time and feel so blessed to live in the USA where we enjoy the freedoms we do. We love, support and respect all those who defend our nation! God bless the USA!
