We are still a 1 car family, trying to hold out as long as we can before making the jump to 2. We love our little '97 Honda Civic...its zipped us around from place to place since we were married. When we got the Civic (a very sweet wedding present) one of the back doors did not open from the outside. Within a few months that same door did not open at all because somehow the child-lock was turned on, but it was not a big deal, we still had the other back door. Well, by the time Jacob was about a year old the same thing happened to the other door - so neither of our back doors would open at all. So, for the last 2 years we have had to get Jacob in and out through a window (hopefully he wont have some sort of Dukes of Hazard thing when he grows up!) and as he got even older he would climb through the front seat to get to the back...one of the many reasons why we lovingly call the Civic our clown car. When we rode in other people's cars Jacob would still try to get in through the front, or wait for someone to roll down the window...you can imagine how cool he thought it was when the door opened for him :P

My sweet husband surprised me and rented a car (oh yeah!) for a week and got both of the doors fixed on the car (along with some other things)!!! I didn't think Jacob would be too excited about it, but when I told him we were getting them fixed, he got SO excited and said "Mom, now I wont have to climb to get to my seat!" I had no idea it affected him like that! In the first day Jacob was insisting on opening his own door, getting in and buckled all by himself. Now I can actually give other people rides! :) I am loving it! I am also thankful to not have to laugh off the funny looks from people seeing me get my kid out through the window or making him climb over the seats...but mostly I am thankful to feel like we actually have a family-friendly car again!! Hooray for 4 doors!

Yea!!! That is truly awesome! Way to go Michael! Good job hanging in there too!
Awww! That's so sweet of him! Be honest, do you kind of miss the character of your car? ;) I actually never got a chance to witness little Jacob climb in through the window, but the thought of it makes me giggle so much!
